Mr. Moataz Hussein

Senior International Investment Agreements Specialist, General Authority For Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Egypt

Moataz Hussein is Senior International Investment Agreements Specialist at The General Authority for Investment & Free Zones (GAFI), The Egyptian Ministry of Investment & nternational Cooperation. Moataz joined GAFI since 2002, and currently he is a team leader at the International Cooperation Department, responsible for drafting and negotiating IIAs, besides playing a key role in modernizing the Egyptian BITs Model.

He represented Egypt in many IIAs negotiations in addition to international conferences and workshops organized by international organizations. In addition, he has a number of published articles, especially in the area of IIAs.

Before joining GAFI he worked in many political and economic research centers, beside working for the Egyptian Radio & T.V as a Political Editor. On the academic side, he holds a Bachelor in Economics & Political Science beside a Master Degree in Public Administration.

In addition, he holds a PhD Degree in Euro Mediterranean Advanced Studies from The Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Cairo University in cooperation with a consortium of European universities. (Thesis in English on: The Role of International Investment Agreements in Protecting National Security: Case study of Egyptian –European BITs). He also taught International Relations at the Faculty of Economic Studies & Political Science.

Moataz participated in many training programs on IIAs, ISDS, Negotiations and International Arbitration.
